Yield (engineering) - Yield strength, or the yield point, is defined in engineering and materials science as the stress at which a material begins to plastically deform. Prior to the yield point the material will deform elastically and will return to its original shape when the applied stress is removed.
Conductor (material) - In science and engineering, conductors are materials that contain movable charges of electricity. When an electric potential difference is impressed across separate points on a conductor, the mobile charges within the conductor are forced to move, and an electric current between those points appears in accordance with Ohm's law.
Fast fracture - In structural engineering and material science, fast fracture is a term given to a phenomenon in which a flaw (such as a crack) in a material expands quickly, and leads to catastrophic failure of the material. Stress acting on a material when fast fracture occurs is less than the material's yield stress.
University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering - The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto (UofT) is Canada's largest engineering teaching and research institution. The University of Toronto Engineering Society is the community of engineering students at UofT and uses the term Skule, which embodies the engineering spirit at the university.

For example, a scientist might measure the strength of bars made from various materials and devices One hundred solved examples, with an emphasis on numerical results and the connection between the physics and its applications End-of-chapter problems that ground the student in both fundamental and applied concepts Numerous figures and tables to clarify the various topics and provide a global view of the book is to provide users with the necessary mechanics background to relate to the many fields of engineering technology--e.g., civil, mechanical, construction, architectural, industrial, and manufacturing. The many helpful features include Twenty-eight application-oriented sections that focus on lasers, transistors, magnetic memories, superconductors, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and other important technology-driving materials and devices One hundred solved examples, with an emphasis on numerical results and the connection between the physics and its applications End-of-chapter problems that ground the student in both fundamental and applied concepts Numerous figures and tables to clarify the various topics and provide a global view of the problems under discussion Over two hundred illustrations to highlight problems and text A book for the information age, Quantum Mechanics: Fundamentals and Applications to Technology promises to become a standard in departments of electrical engineering, applied physics, and health sciences, and introduced new applications currently in use in fields from medicine to cellular communications. Providing an in-depth exposition of quantum mechanics fundamentals, it shows how these concepts are applied to most of today's information technologies, whether they are electronic devices or materials.
